2013 Rocket Boys Festival Gospel Choir Competition

Rules & Regulations

October 5, 2013 Time TBA at New River Park, Beckley, West Virginia

REGISTRATION

• The choir minimum is 10 members
• No choir registration fee is associated with the competition.
• A Food Pantry must be part of your ministry in order for your choir to be eligible. 
• Registration deadline is September 14, 2013

AWARDS

• The competition will be open to six (6)West VirginiaChurch choirs.
• There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prize awards
• Adult choir first place will receive $500.00 food pantry award
• Adult choir second place will receive $300.00 food pantry award
• Adult choir third place will receive a $200.00 food pantry award

SCORING

Contestants will be judged on diction, dynamics, vocal strength, decorum, stage presence, instrumentation, arrangement, song selection, and overall presentation

Choir will perform 2 songs with each song lasting less than 5 minutes length

In case of a tie, each choir will be asked to sing their version of Amazing Grace to determine the winner of the top award. (Please do not perform Amazing Grace as  part of first set)

STAGE - RAMEY FORD STAGE AT BECKLEY EXIHIBITION COAL MINE

Each choir has a total of 12 minutes to perform (this includes set-up time, entrance, performance and exit). Choirs must adhere to time due to the number of competing contestants, choirs that go over designated time my be in penalized

Choir must sign in one hour before their appointed performance time

Performance order will be determined by a random drawing to be held on September 15^th

Choir must use the instruments that are supplied on stage. Those that will be on stage are: keyboard, drums, and amplifiers including a bass amplifier.  No additional keyboards, amps or drums will be allowed on stage.  Drummers must provide their own sticks

Singers competing in competition must not be professionals and no one can sing with more than one choir during the compettion

ADMISSION

Admission is free. Church support is encouraged. This is a festival setting so please remember to bring your own chairs if needed, seating may be limited.

DRESSING ROOMS

All choirs are asked to dress prior to coming to holding area for the competition
